Where the file goes
Save the output as llms.txt at the root of your domain, so it resolves at https://example.com/llms.txt. It is a markdown file, not a directive file — nothing about it blocks or grants access, and it does not replace robots.txt.
What it is actually for
- Giving an assistant a short, accurate description of your business in your own words, instead of one inferred from scattered pages.
- Pointing at the handful of URLs that answer most questions about you.
- Keeping the description consistent with your structured data. If the two disagree, you have made the entity harder to resolve, not easier.
Adoption is still uneven across assistants. Treat it as cheap insurance that costs one file, not as a ranking mechanism.
